Many things influence our lives that we do everyday without thought and even take for granted.
Things such as what we eat, the music we listen to, the books we read and even what we are named. All these
together form family and even national traditions and become part of our culture. Our lifestyle becomes part
of our culture and our culture becomes part of our lifestyle.
Many customs and traditions, like names,
recipes, or holiday celebrations are handed down from generation to generation so far back no one really
remembers where or how they originated. Some originated out of climatic, social or economic conditions
over a long period in history.
These customs and traditions were then carried to other countries
when people emigrated because they were what was familiar and they brought a touch of comfort and
a sense of home to a new and strange place. Over time they became part of the fabric of this new culture.
You may be surprised to find that many things you take for granted as part of your culture, family
traditions or lifestyle really began long ago on a small island called Ireland...
